The caves or Grotto of Onferno represents a complex cast of noteable value.
It is here that a scientific exploration was completed by Quarina in 1916.
An underground stream has corroded these chalky caves giving way to small tunnels, corridors and large areas for about 750 metres.
About 400 metres is open to the public – spectacular corridors and spaces marked by the underground water has one of the largest and variaus colonies of Bats found in Italy.
At the exit of the Grotto there is another 400 m. of area consisting of water rocks and small caves and a splendid vegetation. A great place to visit – about a I hour guided tour with equipment supplied by the visitors centre. On the main land where the caves are there is the village of Onferno, one time a rural village today is being re-built and restored.
